Prof. Dr. Natali Helberger
Professor of Information Law

Natali Helberger is professor in Information Law at the Institute for Information Law (University of Amsterdam). Natali specializes in the regulation of converging information and communications markets. Focus points of her research are the interface between technology and information law, user rights and the changing role of the user in information law and policy. She has received a Veni Talent Grant from the Dutch Organisation of Scientific Research for her research into media pluralism and exposure diversity. Among her current projects is the project “Profiling and targeting news readers – implications for the democratic role of the digital media, user rights and public information policy” for which she has received an ERC Grant. In addition, Natali is one of the co-founders of the project Personalised Communication. Personalised Communication  is an interdisciplinary cooperation between IVIR and the Amsterdam School for Communication Research (ASCoR), and studies the implications from algorithmic profiling for users, society and the law in the areas of commerce, mhealth and politics. Among other things, Natali is a member of the EC High Level Expert Group Connect Advisory Forum, member of the Advisory Board of the Dutch Mediaombudsman, a member of the Communications and Media Scientific Committee of the Florence School of Regulation, member of the program committees of EuroCPR, ITS and the IAMCR Panel of Advisors and reviewers. She is also a member of the editorial committees of the Journal of Information Policy and the Internet Policy Review.
